How do I become a NAPPS Certified Pet Sitter? Purchase the Certification Course and get started on enhancing your skills and career as a certified professional pet sitter today.
How does it work? Business owners will study the materials and take the associated exams in all of the sections. Once the business owner is certified, their staff may apply for certification at a reduced rate. Their course will include all the sections except the business development and management portions.
The study materials consist of pet care and business articles in the NAPPS virtual library, The American Red Cross First Aid for Dogs book and DVD and the American Red Cross First Aid for Cats book and DVD. The course is self-paced and should be complete within 4-6 weeks. Some pet sitters complete the class in as little as a month.
To be certified, you must complete the NAPPS Pet First Aid course of study and test questions. We are not able to accept the American Red Cross (ARC) certification or ARC class participation in lieu of the NAPPS Pet First Aid. The NAPPS Pet Sitter Education committee has created a program with specific standards and objectives to provide our members with education and tools specifically designed for professional pet sitters. Should you choose to keep your ARC certification current (annual renewal with ARC), you may receive credit for this in the re-certification process. (See the re-certification page for more details.)
NAPPS certification is good for three years. During that time pet sitters must engage in further study, NAPPS service, and community service in order to be re-certified for an additional three years. Please click on the re-certification link below for more information. If your certification expires, you will need to re-take the entire certification exam.
NAPPS Certified Professional Pet Sitters receive additional recognition and benefits for their achievement. The NAPPS’ official insurer, Business Insurers of the Carolinas, provides liability insurance discounts for pet sitters who have earned NAPPS Certification. They are also recognized in the NAPPS Pet Sitter Locator with the NAPPS Certified logo:
