Hug Your Cat Day
May 30 is International Hug Your Cat Day and June 4 is Hug Your Cat Day! So schedule some time to show your purring pet some extra love. In ancient Egypt, cats were considered the perfect picture of poise and grace. Some people believe that cats are stoic creatures and don’t love their humans as much as their canine counterparts do. Nothing can be farther from the truth, as any cat pet parent can attest. They just show their affection in more subtle ways.
If your cat is a cuddler, consider yourself lucky! They will love the extra attention lavished on them. According to studies, cat purring helps reduce their owners stress levels, lowers blood pressure and makes them feel calmer. But, not all cats are the same, so some cats might not to be wrapped in a hug or like to cuddle. If the thought of being clawed doesn’t sound fun, or they can’t be found in their favorite sunny spot to give them a couple good pets, consider other ways of showing them how much they mean to you. This may include putting out a bit of cat nip or buying them a new toy or scratcher.
Don’t have a cat or thinking about adopting? This is the purrfect time to stop by your local animal shelter to cuddle some kittens or adult cats that are in need of good homes. Who knows? This may lead to finding a cat or kitten whose face can’t be resisted, and they’ll find a forever home for a lifetime of hugs instead!
Cats are always demonstrating unconditional love and affection (even if they do act like you’re a subject in their kingdom sometimes). Hug Your Cat Day reminds all cat pet parents to hold their pets a little tighter and appreciate the joys cats bring to their lives.
