August 30th is National Holistic Pet Day

August 30th is National Holistic Pet Day. Holistic health is a way of life that takes into account a pets whole being. A pet relies on their pet parent for their care, nutrition, exercise, and emotional support, so it is important to understand on how to holistically care for them as a member of the family.

A healthy diet consisting of natural and organic treats and food will do wonders for the immune system of a pet. Regular pet food is chock full of chemicals and is over processed. With healthier food in their tummies, health issues like intestinal issues, obesity, diabetes and food allergies can be decreased or even disappear. Always look at the labels on pet’s food and treats!

Exercise is another key factor for holistic health for pets. Just like humans, pets need stimulating activity to work off energy or they’ll become overweight. Luckily for both pets and pet parents, it doesn’t take too much time to get a pet to move around, and it’s good for both of them. A morning or evening walk will help keep both active and alert and maybe even become routine. If it’s a nice day, there’s no better time than to take a dog to the park for a game of fetch. Keeping a pet fit will help them keep a healthy weight, lower cholesterol levels, decrease the risk of diabetes and heart disease and helps fight certain cancers. Exercise helps the internal workings of a pet, but we must not forget the pet’s skin and fur too. There are plenty of options at the local pet store that are natural that include essential oils.

The mind needs stimulation or else a pet can become bored. When pets are bored they can cause all kinds of chaos and mess in their homes. That’s why there are now toys designed to keep a pet busy. Treats can also be hidden around the house so that the pets need to sniff them out. Keep plenty of scratching posts around the house so that cats don’t turn their attention to furniture or drapes.

Today, celebrate your pet on National Holistic Pet Day by ensuring they have everything they need to live a long, healthy, and happy life.
