Happy Cat World Domination Day from NAPPS! This cat-themed holiday is celebrated on June 24th and was crafted through an article about how our precious felines dominate the human population. Created for a cat named Sparkle, this blog was made in 2012 as a birthday gift that has since turned into a much larger holiday by sharing cat-related content, memes, “plans” for world domination, and an opportunity to raise awareness about cat adoption due to overpopulation. Still not convinced cats are trying to dominate the world? Check out these cat domination tactics! The Soul Stare: You peer over to find your cats eyes are looking through you, watching your every move. Pessimistic Approach: Are you going about your normal day getting meowed at like you’ve neglected your humanly duties? You look down to see that there is definitely half a bowl of food in your cat’s bowl, but clearly not enough. Your feline overlord requires more! Gravity Push: Trying to sleep? Not at 2am when your cat’s bowl is half empty. Your precious trinkets on the dresser are now on the floor. Purr-fect Invasion: Working on your laptop? Now you have a new lap decoration. Working on a paper for school? Your paper now includes fur. Just get done with fresh laundry? Your basket is now your cat’s bed. Stealth Mode: You’re walking to the kitchen and a wispy blur runs past you, testing their agility. Comfy under the sheets? A surprise pounce attacks your wiggling toes. If you enjoy learning about cat behavior and what their body language means, National Association of Professional Pet Sitters offers a certification course that includes 8 feline studies along with pet first aid and much more. https://petsitters.org/page/NAPPSUniversity
While cats have all of the world domination tactics down, they still need our help with one important topic. Loving homes to dominate in. Unfortunately, overpopulation, abandonment, and shelter overcrowding are becoming a growing issue, but below are some ways to help our furry felines out. Adopt Adopting from a local rescue helps save lives. In the process, you’ll gain a furry companion with claws and a bottomless pit for a stomach. Most cats living in shelters are stuck in a confined area for many hours of the day. By adopting not only will there be room for one more homeless cat to be safely off the street, most of the time, they’ll also be spayed or neutered, which is a significant reduced expense as a new cat owner. Fostering Felines Not in a position to provide a cat with a permanent home, but can watch them for a week or two? That’s okay, most rescues can also help provide the basic necessities such as food, vaccinations, and toys as long as you provide love and shelter as long as you’re available. Fostering is a huge benefit by interacting with cats and socializing with them and can be used as short as a week to as long as a year or two. There are tons of bottle baby kittens that need a couple weeks worth of help until they’re old enough to safely be placed in an adoption facility. Volunteer at a Local Rescue If you don’t have space or time for sheltering future world cat dominators, local rescues can use all the extra available help. This includes feeding cats, washing kennels, cleaning litterboxes, and socializing with the furry overlords. Donate Most rescues have wish lists, but a few staples that are always needed include cat litter, unopened cat food, blankets, and toys. Aside from products, monetary donations help spay and neuter programs, overall operations, and allow for purchasing supplemental items that are low in stock. Spread the Word Through Social Media If unable to adopt, foster, volunteer, or donate, simply sharing helps contribute towards the main goal of helping our feline world dominating friends. Using hashtags in social media posts such as #CatWorldDominationDay #AdoptDontShop #SaveAShelterCat #FosterSavesLives will help the internet find your post to share with others. This Cat World Domination Day, let's not just acknowledge their power, let's empower them to find loving homes. Because every cat deserves to rule their own little kingdom. Long Live the Cats!
