In celebration of National Cat Lady Day NAPPS would like to honor the unbreakable bond between cats and their humans (ladies or not)!

Every year on April 19th, we celebrate National Cat Lady’s Day. It’s a day dedicated to honoring the unbreakable bond between cat lovers and their feline companions. The term “cat lady,” was once associated with negative connotations, but it has evolved into a symbol of pride and compassion for those who share an undeniable love for cats. 

The term “cat lady” has been used to describe individuals who were overly attached to their cats or may have an abundance of cats.  They are often portrayed as eccentric or isolated. However, modern cat lovers have redefined this label. Today’s cat ladies (and gentlemen!) are successful, caring individuals who prioritize the well-being of their furry friends. Whether they’re rescuing stray cats, advocating for feline welfare, or simply pampering their own pets, cat lovers are making a positive impact on the lives of cats all over the world. 

There are many famous figures that love and own cats, including celebrities like Ed Sheeran, Freddie Mercury, Martha Stewart, Elizabeth Taylor, Marilyn Monroe, John Lennon, Robert Downey Jr., Taylor Swift and Katy Perry just to name a few. Some famous writers that proudly embrace their love for cats are Ernest Hemingway and Mark Twain. Their affection for their feline companions demonstrates that being a cat lover is something that is widely accepted and celebrated. 

Many people wonder why we should celebrate National Cat Lady Day.

1.  Promoting Cat Adoption – National Cat Lady Day raises awareness about the importance of adopting cats from shelters and rescues. Many “cat ladies” have rescued cats in need and given them loving homes.

2.  Appreciating Cat Parents - National Cat Lady Day is a chance to recognize the time, love, and commitment that cat owners pour into caring for their cats. Cats may act independent, but in reality, they thrive on human companionship and the love and attention they receive from them. 

3. National Cat Lady Day, brings together cat lovers from all walks of life. It’s a day that helps other cat lovers find community among their fellow cat lovers to share stories, tips, and experiences and it helps support a community of feline enthusiasts.

Here are some ways to celebrate National Cat Lady Day!

* Spoil Your Cat - Treat your furry friend to a new toy, a cozy bed, or an extra serving of their favorite treat.

* Spend Some Extra Quality Time with Your Own Cats – Give them extra lap time and cuddles, play with them using their favorite toys or just enjoy their company!

* Share Your Cat’s Story - Post pictures and stories about your cat on social media using the hashtag #NationalCatLadyDay to connect with fellow cat lovers.

* Support a Local Shelter - Donate supplies or volunteer at your local animal shelter to help cats waiting for their forever homes.

* Visit a Cat Café  - Cat cafes are popping up all over the world. They offer a unique and comfortable experience for cat lovers to interact in a relaxed environment with adoptable cats. 

* Host a Cat-Themed Gathering - Invite friends and family over for a fun afternoon filled with cat-themed movies, snacks, and conversations.

* Adopt a Cat – Consider adopting a cat from a local shelter or rescue, or better yet adopt two.  There is nothing more endearing than hearing the pitter-patter of little cat feet running through your home playing with their bonded cat friend! 

In conclusion, National Cat Lady Day reminds us that being a cat lover is not just a title but a lifestyle. Whether you have one cat or more, take the time on April 19th to celebrate the joy, love, and companionship that cats bring into our lives. After all, life is better with a cat by your side!
